Art From the Space Between Who You Were and Who You’re Becoming

There are moments in life when everything feels as if it’s tilting — not enough to fall, but enough to demand your attention. Enough to make you pause, steady yourself, and ask, “Am I ready for the shift I already know is coming?”
That’s the space this painting came from.
I sketched it shortly after making one of the biggest decisions of my life — the kind of decision that looks bold and clear from the outside, but internally requires moving through so many layers: fear, excitement, grief, hope, identity, expectation. The kind of change that asks you to look at your past, honor your shadows, and still gently tip yourself toward something new.
The glass in this painting is caught in that exact moment — balanced, but not stable; grounded, yet undeniably shifting.
The ice inside represents the layers we carry with us: old patterns, beliefs, inherited weight, desires, dreams, responsibilities, truths we’re still learning how to claim. Even when everything on the outside appears simple, these internal layers are constantly shifting, melting, reforming, guiding us toward clarity.
What I’ve learned — and what this painting helped me accept — is that life may never feel fully upright or “just right.” Balance isn’t static; it’s alive, fluid. It moves.
And there is beauty in that.

This year, so many clients I’ve worked with are in this same space — on the edge of a shift, stripping things away, wanting change but needing time to step into it. This painting is a reminder that the in-between is not a failure or a flaw. It’s a sacred part of the transformation.
Teetering doesn’t mean you’re lost. Teetering means you’re becoming.
This piece is part of my evolving series of glasses — each one a meditation on change, perspective, and the quiet truth that there is clarity to be found even in the most delicate tilt of things.
